The Model 3000 High-Gain AC/DC Differential Amplifier is designed for low-noise recordings from excitable tissue. Specific applications include EEG, EKG, extracelluar recordings, and more.
This single-channel amplifier is packed full of features to accommodate your specific instrumentation requirements, yet fits into a compact enclosure for convenient placement in the lab. The standard input consists of a twisted-pair cable with an active shield. The ends of the cable are left bare to be wired to your input device. As an option, a headstage can be used to pre-amplify the input signal for high impedance glass or metal microelectrodes. The input mode can be set for either differential or single-ended recordings.
External stimulus generators (such as the
Model 2100) can be easily used with the Model 3000 via the stimulus input. The stimulus mode allows the current passing through the electrode to be measured during stimulation at gain levels from 5 mV/µA to 1 V/µA. Both stimulus and recording modes can be controlled through an external gate signal, allowing for computer controlled switching.
The Model 3000 provides a complete set of precision controls, allowing maximum control over stimulus and recording operations. The input can be amplified from 50 to 10,000 times in both DC and AC modes. A high resolution DC Offset adjustment is available up to ±250 mV, using Fine and Coarse adjustment controls. High Pass, Low Pass, and Notch Filters offer wide frequency selectivity.
The small size of the amplifier and remote power supply offers the advantage of placing the amplifier next to the experimental set up, or within a Faraday cage with minimal power-line interference.
The Model 3000 price includes a standard 3 year
Warranty.

Is it possible to have a Model 3000 amplifier customized for my preferred gain and filter settings?
Yes, in most circumstances, we can easily customize at our factory any of our amplifiers' filter and/or gain settings. Please contact technical support (800-426-1306, or tech@a-msystems.com for more information.
Do you sell extension cables for your headstages?
We do not sell extensions, however we do sell new headstages with longer cables (for a small customization charge). The maximum length is usually 12 feet. Typically, the main amplifier needs to be returned to us for calibration with the new longer headstage cables.
What are the differences between the two headstages?
The Regular Headstage supports all of the functions performed by the Model 3000. Some users would prefer a smaller headstage. In order to accommodate them, we have designed the mini-headstage, which is smaller in length (same diameter). To accomplish this, the circuitry that enables the Model 3000 to pass current to the electrode, or determine the impedance of the electrode in-vivo has been removed. Therefore, these functions are in-operative while using the mini-headstage.
My Model 1800 is not working, but our university has an excellent electronics facility. Can we repair the unit ourselves?
It is recommended that A-M Systems perform the needed repairs as we are the most familiar with the units. However, if you are confident in your electronic technician's skills, you can always purchase the schematics for the from us and attempt them yourself. Please note that any user-attempted repairs during the warranty period may invalidate the warranty, and might invoke additional charges to correct them if A-M Systems is required to make repairs at a later date.
Should I purchase a Model 1800 or a Model 3000?
Both instruments are designed for low noise differential recording of physiological signals. The Model 3000 has a DC front end, which also enables the researcher to record DC offsets that would otherwise be eliminated by a full AC amplifier, like the Model 1800.
The Model 3000 also has capacity compensation during recording as well as impedance measurement, while the Model 1800 only uses capacity compensation during impedance measurement.
The Model 1800 has lower noise than the Model 3000, but both instruments have acceptable noise levels for high quality recordings.
The Model 3000 can fit within a Faraday cage, as its power input is DC from the remote power supply.
The Model 1800 has two channels, and two headstages are included. In contrast, the Model 3000 has only a single channel, and headstages are options available for an additional charge.
Can I use this instrument outside of the United States?
All of A-M Systems instruments can be modified to work outside of the United States. Typically, this modification is made at the factory (at no additional cost) prior to shipping to our customers. Just inform the customer service department where the instrument will be used, so our technicians can prepare the proper power supply modifications.
What are the proper operating and storage conditions for my Model 3000?
The Model 3000 is designed to be used under laboratory conditions. Operate in a clean, dry environment only. Do not operate in a damp environment. Temperatures for storage and operation should be between 5 °C and 40 °C. Storage should be indoors in a cool dry place.
