FAQ
The following is a list of commonly asked questions regarding this product.  If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact us at 800-426-1306 for further information.

My Model 2200 failes to recharge even though it has been plugged in overnight. What should I do?

Try pressing the reset switch on the back of the unit before and after charging.

The battery is dead. How do I recharge it?

There are two batteries in the Model 2200: a 9V NiMH and a 12V Lead Acid Battery; they are both recharged by plugging the provided power supply into the unit and connecting to a power source overnight.

The battery no longer holds a charge like it used to. Can I replace the batteries myself?

Replacement batteries can be purchased from A-M Systems by clicking on this link to the accessories page.

My battery has died. Can I temporarily run the unit with my power charger?

No. When the Power Switch is set to CHARGE, the unit's output is disconnected.

My Model 2200 seems to produce a DC offset when placed in current mode. How can I eliminate this offset?

The Model 2200 always produces a small offset in current modes (0.02% of full-scale plus 1nA). But this current can be zeroed for the specific range by using the front panel offset adjust.  To remove the offset properly, hook a 1.0 or 10M resistor across the output prior to beginning your experiment.  Set the range to the range you will use in your experiment.  Set your signal source to 0V.  Please note that the source of the offset is often the signal source, and not the Model 2200.  Look at the voltage across the resistor on a multimeter or oscilloscope.  Adjust the front panel potentiometer so that the output reads zero.  You should now produce near zero current offset during your experiment, when your signal source is zero.

Alternatively, you can eliminate the offset by AC-coupling the output of the Model 2200 (provided you are trying to generate a biphasic waveform).  There are two concerns in using this method: the limited bandwidth and DC offsets in general. Any DC offset, no matter how small, will charge the capacitor in the AC-coupling circuit over time to the point where the output amplifier saturates, and can no longer produce the requested output current.  For more information on AC-coupling the output of a Model 2200, please contact our technical support team (tech@a-msystems.com).

My Model 2200 is beeping at me, indicating the battery is low, but the battery test light illuminates, indicating OK levels. How can this be?

The 9V battery has discharged below acceptable levels, but it is still slightly strong enough to partially light the led. It needs to be replaced.

Can I get a replacement Instruction Manual for this instrument?

Additional Operator's Manuals are available for download by clicking on the 'Downloads' section from the menu bar at the top of this web page, or in the menu column to the left.

My Model 2200 is not working, but our university has an excellent electronics facility. Can we repair the unit ourselves?

It is recommended that A-M Systems perform the needed repairs as we are the most familiar with the units. However, if you are confident in your electronic technician's skills, you can always purchase the schematics for the Model 2200 from us and attempt them yourself.

Please note that any user-attempted repairs during the warranty period may invalidate the warranty, and might invoke additional charges to correct them if A-M Systems is required to make repairs at a later date.

Can I use this instrument outside of the United States?

All of A-M Systems instruments can be modified to work outside of the United States. Typically, this modification is made at the factory (at no additional cost) prior to shipping to our customers. Just inform the customer service department where the instrument will be used, so our technicians can prepare the proper power supply modifications.

What are the proper operating and storage conditions for my Model 2200?

The Model 2200 is designed to be used under laboratory conditions. Operate in a clean, dry environment only. Do not operate in a damp environment. Temperatures for storage and operation should be between 5 ºC and 40 ºC. Storage should be indoors in a cool dry place.
